My Story

Hi there!

I am so, so glad you're here!

I am a mom and wife, but, as many of you know, that means I do a lot! Before having kids, I went to school to be a certified elementary school teacher and I've learned a lot along the way!

My husband and I have 3 kids together. Two boys, and a girl (in that order). We are an active family who tries to get out as much as possible – we love to ride bicycles, go to the beach and paddle board, hike some of the local trails, but our most recent favorite has been camping in our travel trailer!

Amongst all those things, we are a homeschooling family. This means we are always learning, even on the go! And much of it tends to be informal.

We are currently living in San Diego, CA. It means we are pretty spoiled with our weather, but it also means we pay a lot to live where we do! That means we are living in a house that’s much too small (but has a great yard we spend a lot of time in!) and making the most of it! We try to grow our own food as organically as possible - including pumpkins, grapes, tomatoes, and fruit trees (lime, lemon, plum, apple, and 3 varieties of oranges). Our new addition this year was a back yard chicken flock!

It hasn't always been like this.

When I became pregnant in 2013 with our first son, I started looking into what was best to feed him. It wasn't anything processed! And the organizations I thought were there "protecting" me and making sure what was put on the shelves, definitely had deeper motives than ensuring my health. I was shocked!

After discovering the truth, I transitioned to eating as much real food as possible. It doesn't always happen, but it happens most of the time. Most of the fruits and vegetables we eat are raw and typically everything is organic (or farmed using an organic process). We also grow our own food and have chickens that give us eggs.

Next, as my kids grew older and it was time to start thinking about sending them to school... I just couldn't. Not because I would miss them (I would!) but because of what is being taught in schools. It just doesn't align with how I feel my kids should grow up. So, as a mom who is also a Certified Teacher (K-8), we decided to give schooling from home a go.

With all that said...

I am on a mission to encourage you to bring a love for learning back in to your home and to grow your own food as much as you can!

It's time to get back to our roots.
